For Detroit Neuropathy Michigan Physician Provides Expert Care

Peripheral neuropathy is a condition in which the nerves emerging from the spinal cord are damaged. The damage prevents normal communication signals from being passed from the spinal cord to the body locations that they normally control. In a healthy body those nerves send necessary signals to internal and external organs. For the number of identified cases of detroit neuropathy Michigan and other states have skilled medical care available.

Nerve transmission is no longer functioning normally, causing muscular movement to be impaired. The intricate network of peripheral nerves, when healthy, come from the spinal cord to signal movement in specific parts of the body. When they are damaged, pain can be the result.

It is not widely known that of the over 55 demographics, three to four percent suffer from one of these neuropathies one or more times in the course of their life. One such malady is carpal tunnel syndrome, thought to be caused by repetitive movement of the wrist and hand. An example is typing.

A mononeuropathy is the condition of a single nerve being impacted. Accidents are the major cause of these. The nerve is affected when the injury causes pressure against it. This causes pain in one part of the body. Carpal tunnel is an example of a mononeuropathy and the individual experiences numbness, tingling and pain. The first three fingers in the hand are affected.

Peroneal nerve palsy is caused by compression of the nerve that serves the calf muscle located behind the knee. Ulnar nerve palsy affects the elbow. Radial nerve palsy involves the area on the underside of the arm. Pain and numbness are the result of these three.

The motor nerves control muscular movement and the sensory nerves do not perceive cold temperatures or other sensations. The heart, bladder and intestines can also be impacted. When these internal organs are affected, it is referred to as an autonomic neuropathy.

Most of the cases are polyneuropathy, which is a result of malfunctioning of many peripheral nerves concurrently. Possible causes are poor nutrition, exposure to some toxins and the complications that can result from cancer or kidney failure.

Individuals who are afflicted with diabetic neuropathy most often have blood sugar levels that are not adequately controlled. This chronic polyneuropathy can make someone immune to experiencing a normal reaction to extreme temperature or pain. Burns and open sores can occur without conscious realization, often resulting in a lack of treatment.

There is one very rare form called Guillain-Barre syndrome. It occurs when the immune system attacks the nervous system. The onset and progression are sudden and rapid. The person feels a lack of sensation in first the legs and then the arms. The heart, blood pressure and breathing are affected.

The causes for all types varies. Alcoholism, medications, thyroid and kidney disease can be to blame. Cancer and chemotherapy treatment are other possible causes. Aids is another possibility.

There is an inherited condition in this category named Charcot-Marie-Tooth disease type 1. This detroit neuropathy Michigan or occurring in another state results from a degeneration of the insulation that surrounds the nerves in a healthy individual. It is known to be genetically transmitted, passed from a parent to a child.
